Activities in the area
Relaxing at our Guest House
Spend a relaxing holiday in our guest rooms or in our cottages. Enjoy sports and other activities to keep fit (golf, jogging, hiking, training machine, tennis table, swimming in our pool…). A nap in the hammock, a few minutes in the sauna before a massage to completely de-stress, a delightful dinner… Disconnect and relax.
At the foot of the Haut Languedoc regional park, historically torn between Catholic and Protestant traditions, Castres, birthplace of Jean Jaurès, is steeped in history: the famous architect Mansart and landscape gardener Lenôtre designed the Bishop’s palace and its gardens, whilst the ancient multicoloured wooden tanners’ houses along the banks of the River Agout remind visitors to the town of Venice.
Southwest wines, Languedoc wines
The sweet white wine of Gaillac is well-known as ideal to complement foie gras (another famous product of our region), but do not miss tasting the many robust, spicy, fruity reds along the Gaillac Vineyard Route. On the other side of the Black Mountain, 50 km from our guest house, you can also try the strong flavours of the Mediterranean wines of St Chinian, Carbardès, Minervois…
Albi, UNESCO World Heritage Site
Visitors to the area cannot leave without a day in Albi and its Episcopal City, a UNESCO World Heritage site which boasts the world’s largest brick cathedral and the Toulouse-Lautrec museum. http://www.albi-tourisme.fr/
For a more active day ...
Set your own pace and choose your own level for a day kayaking down the Agout, or biking around the estate, or just attending a rugby match at Castres Olympique. For more exercise or excitement, try ‘via ferrata, or accrobranche ( ‘tree-walking”), or canyoning in the Haut Languedoc Regional park. We will do our best to help you organize your holiday in our guest house. .
An hour’s drive away
And well worth a visit, you will find Toulouse, the Cathar town of Minerve, the historic fortified city of Carcassonne, and the cathedral city of Albi (both UNESCO World Heritage sites). Our bed and breakfast and self catering cottages are perfect for a holiday break in France between Midi-Pyrenees and Languedoc-Roussillon. http://en.destinationsuddefrance.com/ http://www.tourism-midi-pyrenees.co.uk/
